Rainbow Mountain & Ausangate Treks

The Ausangate Trek is a high altitude 70km hike in the Peruvian mountains near Cusco with an average altitude of over 4000m. Unlike most other hikes in the region Ausangate is not about Inca ruins, it’s all about beautiful scenery; snow peaks, glaciers, colorful mountain lakes, and the Rainbow mountain. If you like beautiful nature, going off the beaten track and hiking this trek is for you

Rainbow Mountain Trek, originally named Vinicunca is one of the most beautiful natural wonders in Latin America but also one of the most difficult mountains you can trek here. Rainbow Mountain Trek is the second most popular tourist destination in the Cusco region after the breathtaking world wonder, Machu Picchu.

However, it is very important for travellers to be aware of the dangers involved with tackling such a difficult trek, particularly those who struggle with altitude. Below we have outlined what we provide to make the experience as safe as possible so that you can focus on enjoying this unforgettable experience.

Salkantay Trek & Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 7D / 6N

This is perfect for the serious Trekker who cannot make a decision between a Nature trek in the High Andes and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – this has the best of both worlds. We begin on the Salkantay Trek, then change paths just before the Salkantay Pass and hike over the Incachiriaska Pass (Frozen Inca Pass) instead, leading down to the village of ‘Wayllabamba’ which joins with the Classic Inca Trail and heads to Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. We will Trek from the watershed of the Apurimac River to the Urubamba River and around Salkantay Mountain, which is the second highest mountain in the Cusco region (6,277m/20,577ft). The trail twists and turns as we hike up and down through high mountain ranges, misty cloud forest, awesome landscapes and many diverse ecological zones containing a wide variety of plants and bird life. This stone path passes through ancient archaeological sites and leads us to the great finale we have all been waiting for – Machu Picchu.
