What are you Getting for your money ?

Is travel insurance a “must-have”? Absolutely. For your safety and ours, we strongly advocate for comprehensive travel insurance. Your plan should cover trip cancellations, medical emergencies, personal accidents, and emergency repatriation.

  • Trekker’s Note: Ensure your policy specifically includes high-altitude trekking (up to 4,200m/13,800ft) and adventure sports.
  • Liability: Orange Nation does not provide insurance and is not responsible for personal accidents or medical emergencies during the tour.

To keep your journey on track, follow these non-negotiable passport rules:

  • The 6-Month Window: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Peru. Shorter validity often results in denied boarding by airlines or entry by immigration.
  • The Original Only: You must carry your physical, original passport on every trek. Digital versions or paper copies will not get you through Inca Trail or Machu Picchu checkpoints.
  • Consistency: The details on your booking form must match your passport 100%. If you get a new passport after booking, send us a scan immediately and bring both the old and new originals on the trail.
  • Strict Limits: The government caps the trail at 500 people per day (this includes all staff like porters and guides).
  • The Sell-Out Reality: For peak months (May–September), permits vanish 6 to 8 months in advance. Some years, the entire year opens in October/November and the best dates sell out in minutes.
  • The Strategy: We recommend booking 5 to 6 months out to lock in your preferred start date.
  • No Changes: Per government law, once a permit is bought, it is non-transferable and non-refundable. No name or date swaps are allowed.
  • Capacity Caps: Entrance is limited. During high season (June–August), top routes like Circuit 2 sell out months ahead.
  • Live Shifts: Availability moves in real-time. For Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you must book even earlier; these spots are restricted to just 200–400 per day.
  • Late Bookings: We always try our best, but we cannot guarantee specific time slots or circuits for last-minute reservations.

The “fine print” for every Orange Nation adventure:

  • Non-Refundable Deposit: To secure your spot, a deposit of $200–$300 USD (depending on the trek) is required. This is immediately used to buy your non-refundable permits.
  • Settling Up: Your final balance is due in our Cusco office at least 2 days before your trek starts. We accept USD/Soles (bills must be perfect) or credit cards (plus a 5.5% fee).
  • Student Status: To use a student discount, you must provide a valid University Student ID (PVC card with photo/expiry) at booking. You must be under 25 on the day of your visit.
  • The “Force Majeure” Clause: Andean travel requires flexibility. Orange Nation reserves the right to adjust itineraries due to strikes, weather, or landslides to ensure total passenger safety.

Don’t let these dates slip by:

  • May–September: High Season. Demand is at 100%. Expect train and entry times to fluctuate rapidly.
  • February: The 4-day and 2-day Inca Trails are closed all month for maintenance. Machu Picchu remains open via train or alternative treks.
  • October/November: The typical window when the government releases permits for the following year.
  • 6 Months Out: The recommended “booking window” for the Inca Trail and Huayna Picchu.
  • 48-Hour Arrival: You must be in Cusco at least 2 days before departure to finalize payment and attend your pre-trek briefing.

We had an incredible experience hiking the Inca Trail with Ray as our guide. Ray was amazing. He was super knowledgeable about the history of the Incas, and he brought that history to life. We visited three larger sites, and several smaller ones that we arrived at by foot deep in the Peruvian jungle. Ray's was an incredible, passionate, and experienced guide, and also just a great person we are lucky to have met. I also have to mention Moses, our porter who made an amazing lunch and hiked it up to our resting spot 2000 ft above the Urambamba River to Wiñaywayna.

We had a great experience with our guide Cristian during our visit to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. He shared clear and detailed explanations, with a fascinating historical narrative that helped us truly connect with the places we explored. I learned so much thanks to him. The atmosphere was also really positive and friendly throughout the tour. Highly recommended!
